How many of us started parenting as massive perfectionists? One of the best things about becoming a parent for me was finally getting the incentive to work on my huge perfectionism. It was brutal in the short term, as I had very poor skills (sometimes seems like virtually no skills) for accepting my own limitations, let alone my children's. But bit by bit, my ability to go with the flow went up substantially. Along with my dramatically improved ability to accept reality the way it was, came my ability to be happy in virtually any circumstance. That is the biggest gift to have learned for myself, and of course, is what I now am able to model for my kids.
